Hey,
I have considered downloading Ubuntu 9.04 to my laptop for a while
now, but I am a Linux novice and am not sure that, given my type of
computer, this would be a wise idea.
Here's my general computer information:
System:
Microsoft Windows XP
Tablet PC Edition 2005
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

…in your opinion, would it be okay for me to download Ubuntu? would I
perhaps be better off downloading Xubuntu or some other distribution? I
also considered OpenSUSE, but I was told that Ubuntu is better for
beginners. any advice or suggestions?
Thank you!
The
consideration is if you want a Linux that actually looks and feels
like Windows that you are comfortable with. Linux offers all kinds of
Desktop Environments. most people who don't really give it a change end
up trying Ubuntu which is a Gnome Desktop Environment and then they
decide it just isn't worth the effort or use. Kubuntu or PClinuxOs
2009-1 will give you a Windows looking Environment. Open Suse tend to be
a system that bogs the computer down when opening programs. It works
great if you can tolerate it being slow at times.
